Welcome to The Black Horse & Merry Christmas!

We are Daniel and Claire Bryers, and we are thrilled to welcome you to The Black Horse in the charming Leicestershire village of Foxton, a popular country pub serving quality beers and tasty home cooked food in delightful surroundings. We are also a quaint Tearoom and Artisan Bakery providing a variety of home baked bread and delicious cakes lovingly prepared and served on the premises. You’ll easily find us in Main Street, Foxton which is just off the Leicester Line of the historic Grand Union Canal.

Of course, the past 18 months have been a very difficult time for everyone and like all businesses, we were so excited to welcome back our lovely customers in June, to catch up with old friends, meet new ones and generally get back to some form of ‘normality’. As many of you will know, we’ve been very busy (complete understatement) during the various lockdowns, and now we can’t wait for CHRISTMAS!

We know you love our pub as much as we do, so we’ve made a few changes – lots of refurbishing (again), new equipment, garden landscaping, new weather proof terrace canopy, and of course….. our brand new Tearoom and Artisan Bakery! You’ll have to read my autumn blog post for all the news, and my October update for our initial Christmas plans, but suffice to say, we are all ‘super excited’!

WE ARE FULLY OPEN AGAIN….
.
Since June 21st, we’ve been fully open after the various ‘lockdowns’, albeit with essential safety measures in place for everyone’s protection. You can’t imagine how great it felt to have our staff back, to welcome loads of lovely new customers, to serve our regulars again (well, some of you!), and to be a ‘proper country pub’ once again. We really missed you all, and hope that we don’t have to endure any more lockdowns in the future.

IF IT’S YOUR FIRST VISIT…..

On a typical day, you’ll see colourful narrowboats leisurely navigating the locks, moored up or making their way up or down the picturesque canal. Once the main method of transporting goods, the canal now attracts tourists, walkers and boating enthusiasts keen to capture a part of history and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the area.

The Black Horse Pub itself has an interesting history and was rebuilt in 1900 on the site of another Inn, but today with many renovations, it stands proud with its stunning gardens as a highly popular social venue for the local community and visitors, providing the very best in freshly prepared home cooked food and an inviting selection of popular ales, wines and spirits to satisfy every taste.

OUR ‘TAKE AWAY’ SERVICE:

All through the lockdown, we offered our ever popular ‘Pub Takeaway food’ to either be collected from the pub, or delivered FREE directly to your address within our newly extended designated areas. The good news is….., due to its popularity, we are not only continuing this service but we’re EXPANDING it to offer loads of new lines. You can see all the details of food, deliveries, times and areas etc when you view or download our latest ‘Takeaway Menu’.

COVID-19 RISK ASSESSMENT
:
And finally, a quick update about Covid. The coronavirus pandemic has demanded stringent safety precautions for all our protection and in line with government guidelines, we’ve assessed and implemented safety measures in all areas of the building and outside areas. Please take a few minutes  to read our short document here for your reassurance that we are fully committed to your and our staff’s safety and protection, while still delivering the best all round pub and tearoom service that you deserve.

  WE’RE NOW OPENING CHRISTMAS DAY 2021 (11am – 1pm SHARP!) holly sprig **

Well, we had planned to close Christmas Day this year (’cause I know we won’t be able to get Daniel out of bed), but as so many of you have given us such a hard time (!!), I’ve agreed to OPEN from 11am -1pm for DRINKS only! And when I say ‘until 1pm’, I MEAN 1pm SHARP!! No exceptions! (We’ll be frog marching you out the door if necessary!)

But before then, we’re all looking forward to our Christmas Party Night, which is on Sat 18th December with highly acclaimed guest LIVE band ‘SONIC VULTURES’ performing from 8pm.

We are of course OPEN ON CHRISTMAS EVE with our normal services and we’ll be partying on NEW YEAR’S EVE  with KARAOKE helping you exercise your vocal chords – that is if you can get me away from the mike! So please come along and join in our fun!

Please go to our ‘Upcoming Events’ page to see our full Christmas and New Year programme.

The Bar

‘The Bar’ is once again the village’s favourite social venue. It’s a great place to meet friends or family for a friendly chat or brazen banter, a game of darts, or just soak up the brilliant atmosphere and fun. We’ve a great selection of beers, ales, wines, spirits and other drinks to suit all tastes. We ask you to be respectful of social distancing, although the option to wear a mask at the bar is your choice.

Dining at The Black Horse

With fresh locally sourced ingredients, head chef Daniel is meticulous about serving great value tasty popular dishes for lunch and dinner each day with a variety of healthy options to suit all diets. The dining rooms (and with weather permitting – outside facilities) provide a comfortable environment with main menus changing with the seasons to ensure good variety and availability.

Entertainment

Over the coming months, we’ll gradually be announcing more entertainment again, with occasional live music nights and quiz nights, so please keep an eye on our facebook and  ‘Upcoming Events’ pages in our news section for regular updates. Our ever popular Quiz Nights will hopefully return in the Spring (2022) with proceeds once again being split 50-50 between the winners and Air Ambulance.
