About us

Hello, we are Claire & Daniel Bryers and we have been at The Black Horse Pub since 1st December 2018, when we took this ‘tired old nag’ and proudly restored him into the stunning ‘stallion’ we see today – a stylish and warm village country pub and now a brand new tea room and artisan bakery for everyone to enjoy.

Even during the lockdown months of the covid pandemic, our mission was always to keep serving our customers in a safe environment while still maintaining our highest standards. Our aim is, (and always will be), to provide a relaxing, fun social pub and restaurant where our guests can ‘feel at home’ with a welcome drink and (if they choose), a quality home cooked meal in warm and friendly surroundings.

But, a quick word about Covid….

Even though most covid restrictions are now lifted, we ask you to still respect our safety requests to protect our guests and staff.

You may choose whether to wear a mask at the bar, but we ask you to respect social distancing where possible and be mindful of the wellbeing of others around you.

Tables and equipment will of course be frequently cleaned by our staff and there’ll be plenty of hand sanitiser stations available for our customers’ use. When visiting, we will ask you to follow the safety guidelines as displayed inside the building. We appreciate your understanding and assure you we will do all we can to make your visit an enjoyable one.

Our facilities:

We have 2 fully stocked bars, a lounge and conservatory dining room overlooking our beautiful gardens, and weather permitting, we are able to serve our wide range of beers and drinks to you outside so you can fully enjoy the views and enchanting atmosphere.

And brand new this year, is a Canopy Covered Terrace, sheltering you from either adverse weather conditions or blistering sunshine! So, whatever the weather, we’ve got you covered!

All our delicious food is prepared and cooked to order on the premises using fresh local ingredients, and with varied seasonal menu choices catering for all diets, we hope you will make the most of our hospitality and want to return time and again!

As the Black Horse is a country pub, we are also pleased to welcome well behaved children and supervised dogs.

Our Stables Tea Room:

has had a thorough makeover, and now boasts the addition of an Artisan Bakery!

After much planning, we opened the doors in April 2021 and already we’ve been amazed at the brilliant response from our local community.

Throughout the Covid lockdowns, most of our business catered for our takeaway trade, but now, with restrictions lifted, people are also enjoying purchasing our wide variety of home baked bread, scones and delicious cakes at the counter.

Or maybe they’ll be relaxing with a friend or two in our brand new Tearoom, with our special new menu, perhaps enjoying one of our signature cream teas or probably the best freshly brewed cup of coffee on the planet! (OK, I might be getting a bit carried away with the last bit… but it really is VERY good!)  It’s so great to be back!

And one more thing….

We’ll also continue to provide our popular Takeaway Service for collection or local delivery to include our popular fresh produce boxes – (see our updated hours, details and current menus here).

How to find us:

If you haven’t visited our pub before, you’ll easily find us in Main Street, Foxton – about 3 miles north of Market Harborough and a short walk on the tow path from the popular tourist attraction of Foxton Locks. If you are arriving by car, (sat nav. postcode: LE16 7RD) we have ample free car parking spaces at the back of the premises.

And if you are enjoying a break on a narrowboat, then there are 48 hour visitor moorings either side of the Black Horse Bridge in Foxton, and we are just a 50 metres stroll up the hill.

The Pub Is Now Open with Full

Meet ‘The Stable Hands’

(our fabulous Black Horse team):

‘The Boss’ (but only because Claire and the team say he can be!)

Daniel is Landlord, ‘Head Chef’, and self-appointed ‘Chief Gin Taster’. He’s been described as a bit OCD about organisation, preparation, and can sometimes be described as ‘obsessed’ about achieving the highest standards. But Claire says he has been known to sometimes relax as well!

Claire Bryers

Claire Bryers

‘The Real Boss’ (but don’t tell Daniel!)

Claire is Landlady, the real manager behind the business, ‘filling in’ when and where required to ensure a smooth operation whether ‘front of house’, 'customer relations', 'back of house' or ‘bottle washing’, whenever (says Daniel), she can be found!

The perfect ‘senior’ (in every sense of the word!) bar maid; firm and a bit mad, but always the drinkers’ favourite.

Anna is our popular full-time bar lady. She's a firm favourite with customers (especially if they want to talk about cars - she's a 'not-so-secret' petrol head!). If she's not at the bar, she'll be around somewhere, probably cleaning something!

Martin (aka Daniel's Dad) was instrumental in setting up the tea room construction and the brains behind the bakery. He is also passionate to meet the high standards of The Real Bread Campaign, so don't even think about messing with Martin's bread recipes!

Dianne (aka Daniel's Mum) may not be an expert at technology (don't ask her how to configure a 'phone!), BUT she is an EXCELLENT listener and problem solver, bringing a ray of sunshine into any room, which of course makes her BRILLIANT with customers in the Tea Room!

And ably supported by our fabulous weekend team:

… Martha, Rosie, Emily, Tom, Oscar, Joey, Ross, Ellen, Cam M and Cam D (Doug!), Milly and Gray.

EVERYONE …take a bow!

We believe our trusted team is the backbone of our business and their dedication and team spirit is always admired and appreciated. We also know that they will do all they can to make your visit a memorable one (for all the right reasons!). However, if something is not to your liking, please tell us so we can try to accommodate your wishes.

We always welcome your genuine reviews and feedback because we all like to know that you’ve enjoyed your visit, so if you’ve been to see us, please take a moment and click here ( to leave a short review and tell us how we are doing’.
