October 13th 2021:

‘Our October Update’

Hello you lovely people! I thought I’d give you a quick update on our plans for the rest of 2021.

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE this time of year! In fact I get a real buzz just thinking about dressing up the pub and cafe for Halloween, bonfire night and then of course it’s all about getting ready for my favourite time of year – Christmas and then welcoming in the new year!

Fortunately, I never need any encouragement to ‘get in the festive spirit’ – I’ve always loved Christmas time and this year (fingers crossed) in particular it promises to be extra special. How exciting it will be after last year, to meet up with our lovely customers, our friends and family again, to give them a hug and join in singing some carols around the village and the Christmas tree again. Now I might not have the best singing voice, but you can be assured this landlady will be giving it some welly at the back of the class if ever given the chance!

As mentioned in my September blog post, it was a pretty lousy start to the year for everyone, but for all the frustrations of the various lockdowns, we at least had some time to make some positive changes. It also gave us the opportunity to offer our services of take away food and deliveries to the local community, especially to those who were housebound during a particularly difficult time. It’s a service we’ve been pleased to continue as we know how popular it’s been. Of course we hope we can all put the bad time behind us and not have to experience it again. But, if we do, at least we’ll all be better prepared this time.

But with your help and that of our wonderful staff, the pub has recovered well, and we were super busy throughout the summer months. The weather was mostly kind and people loved our new canopy covered outside terrace. We are so grateful to have come through it all.

Everyone at the pub and Tea Room has worked really hard and Daniel and I are now looking forward to at last enjoying a well earned break ourselves for a few days in November before the real partying begins. During this time, the pub and food service (including takeaway)  will continue as normal, but we may have to temporarily close the Tea Room and suspend our delivery service during this time. (Watch out for an update on our facebook page).

But before then, we have November 5th and great LIVE MUSIC provided by KISMET ROCK PARTY BAND.

As their name suggests, it’s going to be a party night and being such a talented and versatile band, they’re going to play your kind of music! There may not be too many fireworks this year, but you can be assured the night will go off with a bang, so get out your best dancing shoes and please come and join us.

Our Christmas Party is on 18th December and of course you are all invited! (whether you are church goers or not). We’ve got the hugely talented ‘SONIC VULTURES‘ band returning by popular demand to entertain us with their ‘live music’. No need to book – just turn up wearing your best (or worst!) Christmas jumper and be prepared to have a great time!

**UPDATE as at 4th December ’21** – WE’RE NOW OPENING CHRISTMAS DAY (11am – 1pm SHARP!) holly sprig **

Well, we had planned to close Christmas Day this year (’cause I know we won’t be able to get Daniel out of bed), but as so many of you have given us such a hard time (!!), I’ve agreed to OPEN from 11am -1pm for DRINKS only! And when I say ‘until 1pm’, I MEAN 1pm SHARP!! No exceptions! (We’ll be frog marching you out the door if necessary!)

We are of course OPEN ON CHRISTMAS EVE with our normal services and we’ll be partying on NEW YEAR’S EVE  with KARAOKE helping you exercise your vocal chords – that is if you can get me away from the mike! So please come along and join in our fun!

Take special care,

With love ,

Claire, Daniel and The Black Horse team xx
